Accidental Claims

04-Dec-2008
LIFE Insurance Corporation has put its recently-installed data warehousing software to good use. Coming close on the heels of the terror attacks in Mumbai, the corporation made a search of its database for the police casualties named in the media after verifying other information, including occupation, from the proposal forms. Despite their high-risk jobs, most of the policemen had insurance for modest amounts. Corporation sources said that the claims were settled as ‘accident’ claims as per the past practice in such cases. An accident death entitles the policyholder for double indemnity but terrorist attacks do not.
